BLUNT & SYMS. Cal. 42 rifle/ 64 cal. smooth bore. NSN. 33" bbl. set has top rifled bbl. fitted w/ semi-buck horn rear & brass bead front sights. Bottom shotgun bbl. is of twist steel. Top flat engraved "Blunt & Syms Cast Steel N.Y." (Working 1837-67). Iron box lock breech section is fitted w/ tall rnd. bodied serpentine hammers. Actions & hammers engraved w/ lg. open scroll. German silver trigger guard is also scroll engraved. Straight grip butt stock is of crotch figured American walnut & measures 14" over a crescent steel buttplate w/ 3 1/2" return. A circular steel patch box w/ fancy finial is on right side. Left side has swept shadow line cheekpiece inlet w/ German silver deer. CONDITION: fair to good. Bbl. w/ old rebrown, considerably polished. Engraving still legible. Breech section cleaned to silver, as are other iron parts. Engraving on top tang of buttplate is recut. Stock refinished w/ a heavy coat of varnish. Checkering is worn almost smooth. Shotgun bore is good w/ some pitting. Rifle bore is dark w/ strong rifling, also pitted. Right hammer will not cock, left only holds at half cock. There are a number of repaired cracks in butt behind action casting. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19317/MGM).
