NEWLY DISCOVERED FINE CONFEDERATE GRISWOLD
REVOLVER. Cal.36. S# 3404. Bbl. 7.5" half octagonal to round, standard configuration 2nd model. S# 3404 was discovered in Raleigh, North Carolina at modern gun show, unfortunately with no known history other than it belonged to a young man’s father who had just recently passed. This revolver easily ranks in the top 10% of all surviving Griswolds. It is a beautiful “attic condition” example with fine patina. CONDITION: very good overall, superior for Confederate revolver. Markings are sharp, iron is uncleaned with a mottled plum patina. Brass has mixed medium mustard patina. Gun appears all original and matching including screws with exception of wedge screw and mainspring. Remnants of old scratched initials or name on butt strap are partially discernible. Grips were slightly thinned during period of use with hand worn patina and few tacking marks on butt. Serial number 3404 stamped on right side of revolver on frame, cylinder, and barrel. Secondary number 4 is found stamped on every part normally marked: wedge, loading arm, hammer, trigger, trigger guard, and bottom of grips. Cryptic “MM” is found on every part normally marked: frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and barrel. Cryptic on bottom of barrel is only partially discerned as lightly stamped. Mechanically functional, sharp rifled bore. (01-18913/JS). ANTIQUE. $25,000-30,000.
