Cal. 30 U.S.G. (30-06). S# 2715. Bbl. 24" sporter with 1903 Springfield style front sight base having Sheard style copper bead; empty dovetailed banded base at rear. Bbl. marked “NEWTON ARMS CO., INC. / BUFFALO, N.Y. / 30 U.S.G.”. Action has 2 rows of locking lugs (3 and 4), Mauser style long extractor, knurled cocking piece, checkered bolt handle, 2 position rotating safety on bolt shroud and dbl. set triggers. Fitted with Weaver scope rings (1 extension, 1 regular) and 1 piece base. Matching numbered Schnabel tipped straight comb walnut Classic style sporter stock with checkering (wrap around on forend), steel grip cap and brown Pachmayr white line rifle pad. Floorplate assembly has ingenious fastening allowing stock removal without tools by using opened floorplate to undo front action screw. Stock near rear of action has brass reinforcement; squared sling swivels. Left side of receiver has 2 drilled and tapped side scope mount holes with plug screws. CONDITION: good to very good metal finish with some spots of peppery oxidation and high edge thinning. Good stock with handling marks, extra finish and additional hole behind rear swivel. Very good to excellent bore with very faint wear. (23-360/NW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
