BY G. E. LEWIS. Cal. 20 Bore, 2 5/8". S# 14711 (1924). Bbls. 28" dovetailed, engraved "G. E. Lewis & Sons. 32 & 33 Lower Loveday St. Birmingham" on unmatted portion of narrow swamped game rib. Bbl. flats stamped w/ Birmingham Nitro proofs & "CHOKE". Case hardened boxlock action features non automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), hidden square crossbolt third fastener, side clips & Miller single trigger w/ selector combined w/ safety button. Action engraved w/ 50% coverage well cut varying sized scroll surrounding vignettes of game birds on sides. Grouse on left & pheasant on right. Maker's name is above each scene. Scroll engraved top lever, floorplate & trigger guard are blued. S# is on trigger guard tang. Well marbled & lightly figured European walnut, rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13 7/8" over ribbed horn buttplate (single trigger made in rear position). Stock features drop points & flat top point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders at grip. A vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend w/ shaped steel tip has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: bore diameter: right .617", left .622". Restriction: right .020" (Mod.), left .027" (Full). Min. Wall Thickness: right .32", left .030". STOCKS: LOP: 13 7/8". DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 5/8". Cast 1/4" off. Weight; 5 lbs., 10 oz. CONDITION: fine, mostly original. Bbl. retaining approx. 80% blue w/ some scattered freckling & thinning on sides. Action retains 40-50% original case hardening color, again w/ some freckling. Top lever & floorplate retain most of their original blue; trigger guard w/ only traces. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish & are quite dry. Checkering moderately worn & somewhat gummed. There is a 1/2" long deep ding at left side of grip behind top tang, otherwise stocks appear to be sound. Bores are bright & shiny w/ out any noted dents or repairs. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors slightly out of time. Trigger appears to work well.
