PERSONALIZATION TO CAPTAIN MYRON LAMB OF THE 101ST ILLINOIS. Overall length: 39 3/4". Blade length: 32 3/4". Myron H. Lamb was a resident of Morgan County, IL & enlisted in September of 1862 as a 1st Lieutenant & was commissioned into Company E of the 101st Illinois Infantry. He was promoted to captain on Christmas day, 1863. Lamb served throughout the war mustering out in Bladensburg, Maryland in early June of 1865. Blade has a single wide fuller & has 2 engraved panels featuring a spread winged American eagle & "U.S.". The ricasso is stamped, "F HORSTER SOLINGEN" w/ a brass "proved" button on the other side. Iron basket hilt w/ cut out eagle & "U S" in guard. 4 Branches join to form the knuckle bow & enter a plain pommel. Plain backstrap w/ wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard is engraved between the suspension loops, "Capt. M. H. Lamb Co. E. 101st Ills. Holly Spring Miss Lookout Mountain Mission Ridge Rescaca Ga. New Hope Church Peach Tree Creek Atlanta Savannah Averysboro Bentonsville Raleigh. N.C.". CONDITION: blade has a dark, somewhat mottled patina. Etching is a bit weak but easily visible. Hilt has a similar dark patina & is undamaged. Both grip & wire are complete. Scabbard has a dark patina & has been cleaned between the suspension rings to enhance the legibility of the engraving.
