7.7mm SN: 13190. Rare Japanese military take-down rifle, estimated production of about 19,000- 22,000. Rifle falls right into the mid-to-late 1944 production block. Feature an intact imperial chrysanthemum above the characters "??" (Type 2) on top of the chamber. Features 25.5" barrel, blade front sight with protector ears, V notch rear sight with flip-up elevator ladder & anti-aircraft wings, cleaning rod, bayonet lug, side mounted sling swivels, manual safety, hinged floorplate, takedown screw on right side of action. The top/barrel is mismatched to the lower half. Consigner states he purchased this rifle from the nephew of the USMC veteran who served in the Pacific who stated this was how it was brought home. Definitely a vet bring back with full Mum and no importer marks. The barrels assembly plate is marked "924" and the left lower barrel is marked "924", the lower assembly plate is marked "669" and the wedge screw is also marked "669". The serial number is matched on the receiver, bolt and extractor. The assembly plates have some rough patches in the metal which match perfectly on the upper & lower plates, the finish is also a match indicating these parts have been together a long time. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Blued finish is mostly intact, turning brown in some places and showing some patina. Wood is overall very good condition, mostly original finish, many small dents and a small chip out of the upper right forearm. Butt joint is excellent with barely visible line. Markings are crisp & deep.
Condition is NRA Good++. C&R Firearm.
