Rifle. Bolt-Action. "Cavalry Carbine. Third variation, with one hole for cleaning rod, half round screw extension on the bayonet housing. Produced 1911-1942. Entered service in 1912, the 44th year of the Meiji reign, Type 44. Full Chrysanthemum. Japanese military bolt action rifle features 19" barrel, protected blade front sight, V notch rear sight with flip-up elevator ladder, straight bolt handle, folding spike bayonet, butt compartment, side mounted sling swivels, manual safety, hinged floorplate. Hook located below the front sight on the right side, replicating the quillon of the type 30 bayonet for bayonet fencing techniques of the period, and for stacking. Three 1/4' holes in the underside of stock under the bayonet. Serial numbers match on Receiver, bolt, and bayonet housing. Dust cover number is too feint to read. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Retains 75% blued finish, with edge wear, and handling loss on the triggerguard/floorplate. Some surface rust on the bolt, and minor spots of surface rust on the bayonet housing. Bolt/buttplate are in the white, very good condition. Wood is good condition with many small scrapes, scratches & dents, Observed markings are crisp. No importer marks observed. What appears to be a cut-down original Arisaka sling attached. A matching, nice conditioned Type 44. NRA Condition-Good. C&R firearm.
