Antique Scarce Factory Engraved, silver plated National Arms Company No. 2 Derringer Pistol, made just after the close of the American Civil War with a production run between 1865 and 1870 in Brooklyn, New York when the company was purchased by Colt. Deringer is chambered for a single shot of .41 rimfire, a likely choice for very concealable self-defense in the last half of the 19th Century. The entire barrel swivels on a hinge for loading, when the hammer is put into half cock and the release button is pushed. The hammer is split and acts as the rear sight when in full cock. After the original maker, Moore’s, was purchased by the National Arms Co., the Colt Firearms Co. bought National Arms and started making the pistol in 1870. Original silver plate finish throughout. Barrel marked "National Arms Co. Brooklyn NY, the underside is stamped with the serial number, the face of the barrel is stamped "AM", the left frame under the grip is stamped "AM 86" and the inside of both grips are stamped "AM 86". The action is excellent, hammer stays at half cock. The bore is bright with rifling with patches of light pitting, the checkered wood grips are are very good with minor dings and the silver plate is about 85% with some handling wear.
