Nepalese East India Company Pattern 1842 (Model F) Percussion Musket with Bayonet, #NVSN, .75 cal., 39.2"smoothbore barrel, bright finish; brass forend cap with Lovell type release catch, rammer pipes, trigger guard, and buttplate. Hardwood stock, block front sight, fixed rear sight with wide "U"-notched groove, and iron rammer under the barrel. The British bayonet has a 16" blade, 3" socket, and is stamped "S.HILL" across the blade flat. Bayonet is in good condition, showing small dents to the edge, wear, patina, and an area of pitting near the point. A Nepalese number has been engraved into the left side of the socket. The bayonet will fit onto the third step but will not engage the release catch. Lockplate and right side of the buttstock are marked with the East India Company "Rampant Lion" symbol, and left side of the barrel is stamped with London gun maker's proof and view stamps. There are Nepalese rack numbers engraved onto the trigger guard and buttplate tang. Condition overall is good, metal shows evidence of old cleaning, with areas of patina. Brass parts show normal toning from age. Wood with scattered dents, scratches, and some areas of darkening. Designs have been lightly carved into both sides of the buttstock. Hammer operates smoothly and hold on half and full-cock. Bore is fair but may clean better. Est.: $500-$700. (Antique)
