O/U RIFLE/SMOOTH BORE COMBINATION GUN BY P.

KOCKLER. Cal. 45 rifled / 68 smooth. NSN. Bbl. 34". Overall length 49 1/2". This is a very late percussion O/U gun w/ back action locks. Stock is curly maple w/ a silver capbox. Cheekpiece has a silver elk inlay. The gun was made by P. Kockler (Cockler) (1870-1880), Lewisburg, PA & is so marked on the bbl. Kockler learned his trade from F. Beerstecher. CONDITION: silver inlay missing forward of the trigger guard. Trigger guard is held in place by modern screws. The bbl. tang was broken through at the first screw & the forward ramrod pipe has been resoldered to the gun. The hammer screws are also replaced. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing.
