Most components are scroll engraved other than bbl. which has a V-notch cut forward of front sight. Original Deringer hinged, veneered, burgundy velvet lined casing compartmented for pistols, powder flask, scissor mold, screwdriver, nipple wrench, powder measure & worm. There are also compartments in opposite corners for patches & caps w/ velvet covered lids having tiny carved ivory finials. Nearly identical cased sets can be found in Doug Eberhart’s text “The Derringer in America”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1964 appraisal document. CONDITION: very good overall. Guns are matching & complete, markings & engraving all crisp and discernible, iron components have mostly smooth gray patina. Silver components are not recently cleaned w/ mixed dark patina, German silver components are smooth. Stocks retain strong traces of original varnish, checkering is still crisp. Both pistols have hairline crack on left side diagonally running forward of lock escutcheon back, on one gun it runs to triggerguard. Mechanically both guns are fine w/ crisp dirty bores, one gun has filled nipple. Casing externally is very good w/ a few minor cosmetic blemishes, incised gold perimeter line decoration is very good, folding handle in lid is very good. Lock tongue is broken off. Burgundy lining is faded & stained, the velvet loosening at bottom edge & inside lidded compartments. Accessories fit well. Smooth sided powder flask retains much of its original finish, ball mold is very good, brass & steel mounted worm has functional screw & brass cover. The screwdriver & nipple wrench are most likely replacements. Well fitted small tin powder measure is very good. (01-19982/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
