WALL SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 32-40. S# 78254. This intriguing target rifle was originally barreled as a cal. 32 WCF. The letter indicates it was rebuilt to its current configuration & shipped in 1897. Bbl. 33 1/2" #3 weight oct. German silver blade Rocky Mountain front sight w/ filler in rear dovetail. Winchester A5 scope on added bbl. blocks. Case colored high wall action featuring dbl. set triggers & spur lever. Stock & forearm are of the fine quality fancy black walnut w/ gloss varnish finish & style H factory checkering. Forearm is schnabel style w/ ebony tip. Hard rubber capped pistol grip stock features full left side cheekpiece & nickel finished brass short prong Schuetzen buttplate. Inside of lower tang marked "3909 XXX SBC". Back of stock & buttplate marked "3913”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter providing the following information "Serial number applied on April 20, 1897 / Type: Rifle / Caliber: 32 WCF / Barrel Type: Octagon / Barrel Weight: #2 / Barrel Length: 28 inches / Trigger: Plain / Received in warehouse on June 23, 1897 / Received in warehouse on September 29, 1897 / Rifle, 32/40 caliber, Octagon barrel, Set trigger, #3, 34 inches, Checkered stock, / Pistol grip, Swiss plate, Swiss cheek piece, Spur lever / Shipped from warehouse on September 29, 1897, Order number 16835". CONDITION: bbl. retains 90% lightly faded blue showing silvering on edges. Rifle has attractive appearance retaining 70% lightly faded colors on its high wall receiver. Original wood finish shows scattered scratches, marks & retains strong checkering. Buttplate retains 30% nickel finish. Sound action w/ crisp set trigger operation. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Scope has good optics, left side of tube has 2 sm. dents. (01-20171/DS). ANTIQUE. $9,000-12,000.
