up for auction is a highly desirable, 100% authentic pre-world war i united states army recruiting poster titled "men wanted for the army. " beautifully illustrated by renowned military artist michael p. Whelan circa 1909–1910, this vibrant color lithograph features a detailed depiction of a standing u.S. Infantryman with rifle alongside a mounted cavalry bugler sounding a call against a western mountain backdrop. this specific example is a rare survivor, remaining entirely intact with its original, factory-issued top and bottom wooden banding strips and top metal hanging loop. It comes safely flat-stored, professionally shrink-wrapped to a rigid foam core board backing for immediate presentation and preservation. artist: michael p. Whelanyear of issue: circa 1909medium: multi-color lithograph on paperdimensions: 29. 5" w x 39. 5" h (standard large-format size)hardware: original wooden mounting dowels (top & bottom) with original metal hanging eyelet. this poster remains in remarkably well-preserved, untouched, and unbacked original condition. The colors remain strong, bright, and true to the period. primary image area: clean, crisp, and free of major punctures or staining. margins/edges: displays minor edge wrinkling consistent with a century of storage and natural paper handling. creasing: a single, minor diagonal crease measures approximately 6" at the bottom right corner. This crease is localized entirely within the blank margins of the lower enlistment cartouche and does not encroach upon or detract from the central lithograph artwork. hardware condition: wooden banding is stable and secure; paper remains tightly bound to the original mounting tracks. a prime, complete piece of early 20th-century american military history that would make a spectacular centerpiece for any advanced u.S. Cavalry, wwi, or propaganda art collection.
