Double mat in silver and gold wood frame with brass plaque that reads '1892 Will James 1942, "Self Portrait" Scribners Lone Cowboy1930' from page 336. Image measures 4 1/4" x 7". Paid $8500 October 2006 from Arizona West Galleries. Will James, cowboy, cattle rustler, and beloved author and artist of the American West was born in Quebec, Canada. He came West at the age of fifteen and became a cowhand showing artistic talent from an early age, gaining a reputation for his sketches of life on the range. Between 1920 and his death in 1942 Will James wrote and illustrated more than twenty books and numerous magazine articles. The Will James Society promotes his legacy, literature, and art, and donates his books to schools and libraries throughout the United States and Canada. They also send softcover versions to military installations in the US and overseas. The society is currently located in Elko, Nevada which is also the home of the Northeastern Nevada Museum, the home of Don Frazier's collection of art works and books by Will James. From the Bill A.
