Entitled "Partners" signed lower left, image measures 8"x6" in single mat with gold fillet and wood frame. Brass plaque on frame reads '1892 Will James 1942, "Partners" Tenderfoot Book 1925. Formerly in A.P. Hayes Collection. Purchased in 2006 from Nedra Matteucci Galleries, Santa Fe, NM for $13,000. Will James, cowboy, cattle rustler, and beloved author and artist of the American West was born in Quebec, Canada. He came West at the age of fifteen and became a cowhand showing artistic talent from an early age, gaining a reputation for his sketches of life on the range. Between 1920 and his death in 1942 Will James wrote and illustrated more than twenty books and numerous magazine articles. The Will James Society promotes his legacy, literature, and art, and donates his books to schools and libraries throughout the United States and Canada. They also send softcover versions to military installations in the US and overseas. The society is currently located in Elko, Nevada which is also the home of the Northeastern Nevada Museum, the home of Don Frazier's collection of art works and books by Will James. From the Bill A.
