Ornate Antique English Brass-Barrel Flintlock Dueling Pistol, NVSN, .65 cal., 9" round brass barrel made without sights, marked "Minories–London" atop the flat section forward of breech, has a teardrop-shaped decorative motif ahead, "(star)/RW" with "(crown)/GP" and "(crown)/V" sunken cartouches at left breech; beveled lockplate with elongated rear tail has integral pan, "swan-neck" cock, is marked "Wilson" amid a scrolled flourish; engraved brass furniture comprises loop trigger guard with urn-like front and long rear tangs, oval butt (buttcap missing) with elongated side tangs, vacant oval nameplate at wrist with fan top/urn bottom details, fancy open-work and scrolled sideplate, two ferrules retaining the horn-tipped ebony ramrod. Early-style trigger with curved tail. Fullstock of varnished English walnut has raised aprons at either side of the lock and another with fan terminal about the upper tang. Mfg'd ca. latter half of the 18th Century. Condition is near excellent having bright brass and smooth gunmetal gray lock, sharp edges, markings and engraving. Stock is sound and smooth with lightly-worn carved details having been smoothed and satin finish added, has a .125" impressed "dot-within-a-square" cartouche behind sideplate, shows lovely grain and color. Lock appears to be original flintlock with correct components, touchhole may be original and unbushed. Action is strong and crisp, smoothbore is clean having light roughness.
