Ornate Antique Southern German Schuetzen Rifle, by Ed. Girku in Kaufbeuren (Bavaria), #2624 to top of lever, 9.5x47R cal., 28'' octagonal barrel, engraved and inlaid blue and case hardened finish, fancy carved cheekpiece Mediterranean walnut stock, Kessler patent Martini Action, double set adjustable trigger, pin front sight with protective ears and simple adjustable rear sight lacking eyepiece. Additional port for rear turret sight is present. Gas vents to both sides of frame near breech face. Fine detail engraving to frame, block, lever, and both upper and lower tangs of case hardened Schuetzen buttplate. Chamber area of barrel with fine gold and platina inlay work, as well as maker's name and address and single band in 18K gold; ''Guss Stahl'' in platinum or white gold. Nicely appointed Jagermeister finely engraved to forward portion of cocking lever. Condition is fine with 75% early type rust blue to barrel. Case hardened components are a light overall gray. The removable trigger assembly is a remarkable example of the gunmaker's art and appears crisp both visually and in operation. Bore is excellent. Hickory wiping rod is present. An outstanding example of 19th Century Bavarian gunmaking. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
