Antique American Over/Under Double Barrel Percussion Sporting Rifle, by G. Morgan of Lansing, Michigan, NVSN, .40 cal., 30'' barrels, the top barrel with dovetailed tiny brass blade front and low buckhorn style rear sights marked ''G. Morgan Lansing, Mich. 1873 - 308'' in one line ahead of breech; twin brass-tipped hardwood ramrods are held in three long ferrules at sides of barrels; sturdy steel breech with twin hammers, floral engraved sideplates, long top tang mounted with an adjustable (for elevation) round peep tang sight; double set triggers; scrolled iron triggerguard with rear finger rest; beautifully grained varnished walnut ''perch-belly'' buttstock with fancy engraved iron patchbox on right side and exaggerated crescent iron buttplate. Condition is very good with metal having an overall smooth dark brownish patina. Buttstock shows lovely color and retains most original varnish with scattered finish loss at right side. Actions are very strong; bores are bright with deep rifling. Morgan worked as a riflemaker c. 1863-1874, first in Galena, Ohio, and later in Lansing; this one is a beauty. Est.: $1,200-$1,800.
