BY A. ELSTON IN CASE. Cal. 45. NSN. The 2 1/2" cannon-turned bbls. w/ wrench lugs on bottoms are marked "1" & "2". Matching numbers are on boxlock flintlock actions which are stamped w/ London black powder proofs & bbl. maker's initial "F" under a crown. Cocks are reinforced. Frizzens have springs hidden in front of actions which are armorial & scroll engraved within geometric borders. Left sides are engraved "A. ELSTON" (Abraham, working in Doncaster, York 1783-1793). Walnut flat sided bag grips have chinoiserie inlet silver decoration on sides & top. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistols are housed in a vintage handmade oak case lined in green cloth which contains bbl. wrench, nut cracker type ball mold marked "48", a powder priming horn & lead balls in one covered compartment, flints & broken topjaw screws in another. CONDITION: pistols are good, cleaned to silver gray over scattered light pitting. Stocks show considerable wear to what appears to be their original oil finish. Silver wire inlay is good. Bores are lightly pitted. Mechanically good. Top jaw screws replaced. Newer case is fine w/ most of its original oil finish. Interior cloth is good. Old, most likely original, accessories match condition of pistols. (01-20596/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
