BOXLOCK POCKET PISTOLS WITH FOLDING TRIGGERS BY WILLIAM NICHOLSON. Cal. 53. NSN. The 1 3/8" round smooth bore bbls. have London proofs. Boxlock frames which are also brass, are stamped with London proofs on bottom. Steel cock has small reinforce and can be secured in half cocked position by a sliding safety at rear which also locks frizzen in closed position (when brought to full cock), the folding triggers are exposed. Actions are engraved with geometric borders surrounding "Nicholson" in oval on left sides and his Cornhill London address (1786-94) in flag flanked device on rights. Walnut flat sided bag grips have silver escutcheons at rears engraved "JH?". CONDITION: good. Brass with considerable cleaning has now turned gold. Steel parts are silver to gray patina. Stocks have most of an old oil finish. Mechanically good. One pistol has small chip missing on bottom of left side grip behind action. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor.
