Cal. 50 smooth bore. NSN. 41 1/8" Slightly tapered oct. bbl. is unmarked & is fitted w/ U notch rear & German silver bead front sights. Hand made lock w/ slightly chamfered plate having file decorated tail is made w/ serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ file decorated steeple type foliate finial. Bbl. & lock appear to be in original flint configuration. Full length stock of lightly fiddle figured hard maple extends to muzzle w/ brass cap & is pinned to bbl. Mts. are brass w/ simple patchbox w/ release in buttplate & has spear type finial. Buttplate has 2" brass return. Chamfered trigger guard has grip spur. Long squared sideplate is chamfered. Stock has incised carving behind & below sm. fluted cheekpiece. Grip area is slightly recessed leaving raised fields at transition to butt & around bbl. tang. Ramrod channel is lightly beaded terminating in more incise scroll at rear above oct. & beaded thimble. Old hickory ramrod mounts through 2 matching pipes. CONDITION: good. Bbl. & lock retaining brown patina w/ scattered pitting. Stock w/ what appears to be original finish w/ many minor marks. Has attractive wear at grip & forend. Brass toned to mustard brown. Rusted bore. Lock cocks but won't fire. (01-20142/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
