FINE ENGRAVING BY BILL MAINS. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 62020. Two bbl. sets. One 33 7/8" w/ raised matted ventilated rib for singles trap, is ported. Perazzi information & importer (Perazzi USA / Rome - New York) is at rear. Mono-bloc is stamped w/ 1984 Italian nitro proofs & S# 64800. Second set of 29 1/2" O/U bbls. fitted w/ interchangeable choke tubes (2 extended stainless steel tubes in place marked for .015 & .020) & ventilated rib. This bbl. has proof date of 1992 & is numbered to the action. Coin finished, low profile, O/U action w/ V spring removable trigger group is fitted w/ ornamental sideplates. Action & plates are engraved w/ sprays of scroll at front & back framing game & dog scenes. Birds, pheasant on left & quail on right, are flush inlaid in gold. Dogs, pointing setter on left & what appears to be the same setter on right, are in high relief gold. Engraved backgrounds are nicely detailed. Bottom of action depicts a pair of flush gold inlaid ducks settling into a marsh. Engraver's signature "MAINS" is under dog on left sideplate (Bill Mains, celebrated American engraver, now deceased). Attractive flame figured & nicely marbled Claro walnut extreme pistol grip Monte Carlo buttstock, measures 15 3/8", over black "KICK-EEEZ" pad. Stock features right hand palm swell & nicely cut fleur-de-lis checkering. Slim Field forend has pronounced schnable. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS - Single .724 Restriction .037 (FULL). STOCK: w/ O/U bbls. DAC 1 1/4". DA rear of Monte Carlo 1 5/16". DAH 2 11/16". WEIGHT: 9 lbs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black pigskin leather covered ABS case lined in brown corduroy contains stock removable tool. Estimate of replacement value of $68,900, dated October 4th 2017. Letter from Bill Mains indicating that his records show that he completed his part of the engraving on May 22, 1986 & w/ anecdotes regarding his adding of the sideplates & doing the milling on a drill press at his subsequent acquisition of a Brown & Sharp horizontal mill he received in trade for engraving. CONDITION: very fine. Original O/U bbls. retain nearly all of a professional reblue w/ some marks & scuffs from removal of forend. Action retains nearly all of its coin finish w/ some evidence of light cleaning on bottom. Stocks retain nearly all of their original high gloss finish w/ a few minor marks. Singles trap bbls. retain nearly all of what appears to be their original blue, silvered on mono-bloc & w/ marks from contact w/ forend. Bores are excellent. Mechanically fine. Case is good, interior cloth detaching in top compartment. This is a custom gun w/ Bill Mains engraving, not factory production. PROVENANCE: Collection of Alan Bradley Shepherd. (20-4007/MGM).
