GAME GUN W/ CASE & ACCESSORIES, INCLUDING A LANCASTER CARTRIDGE MAGAZINE. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 14264. (1924). Bbls. 29" Chopperlump, are engraved "Charles Lancaster, 99 Mount Street Berkeley Square, London." on slightly swamped narrow game rib. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ London nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers. Case hardened sidelock action is stocked to the fences & features automatic safety (safe inlaid in gold), bushed strikers & double triggers. Action is very nicely filed w/ traditional beads & fillets around locks & on to bottom. Action is engraved w/ near full coverage very cleanly & delicately cut traditional rose & scroll. "Charles Lancaster" is on each lockplate & also in coiled ribbon device on bottom of action over "London". Trigger guard has large open scroll on bow. S# is on tang. Very nicely streaked & lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock, measures 14 7/8" over checkered wood butt. Styling is traditional w/ typical Lancaster rounded drop points, flat top point pattern checkering at grip & a gold oval engraved "E. L. M." on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: Bore diameter: R 728 L 729. Restriction: R .009 (IC) L .018 (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .025 L .022 STOCK: LOP: 14 7/8". DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2+". Cast: 5/8" off. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 8 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: what appears to be original leather case w/ brass corners & central medallion engraved "E. L. Mather COBHAM Surrey" & is embossed "ELM" on top. Interior is lined in green cloth & has gold embossed black leather Lancaster Berkeley Square label in lid. Case contains pair of Lancaster marked snapcaps & rnd. oil bottle. Unmarked accessories include ebony handled turnscrew, Dixon shot measure, the handle of a chamber brush, striker key & 2 piece cleaning rod w/ mops & brush. Also included is a leather trunk type cartridge magazine for 200 12 bore cartridges. Top of magazine is embossed "H.P.D.". A New Bond Street paper Lancaster label is in lid. CONDITION: very fine, partially refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a good quality reblack. Action retains approx. 30% original case hardening color, mostly silvered on bottom & on sharp edges from normal hand wear. Lock plates retain considerably more of their color w/ left plate approaching 90% & right plate at around 60%. Top lever & trigger guard appear to have been reblacked as engraving is slightly softened. There is some subsequent silvering on thumbpiece & sides of trigger guard bow. Stocks have been lightly refinished & have a number of subsequent marks both light & heavy. Checkering does not appear to have been recut & is somewhat worn. Bores are very fine to excellent w/ some minor striations & no evidence of any dents or repairs. Action is tight. Left bbl. is on face, right bbl. shows a glimmer of light. Ejectors very strong & in time. Case leather is dark & has many old scuffs & marks. Straps are missing, original handle is good. Interior cloth is very good w/ some compressions & rubs from bbls. & accessories. Label is very fine w/ single 1/2" rub from contact w/ action. Partitions are good. Magazine case leather is also rubbed on edges, beginning to separate at rear. Interior lid is lined in green cloth which is fine. Label somewhat foxed & oil soaked. Straps & handle are good. A fine fast handling London "best". (20-1687/MGM). CURIO. $6,000-10,000.
