ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 25-20M (25-20 WCF). S# 145 (left side top tang underneath stock, mfg. 1910-1911). Per "Marlin Firearms" by Lt. Col. William S, Brophy (1989, page 436) the lowest reported serial number is 149, this rifle's serial number could be the lowest possible. The Model 27 pump rifle was first introduce in 1909 in the 25-20 & 32-20 WCF cartridges. The Special Smokeless Steel 24" oct. bbl. has replacement Marbles front sight & elevator rear sight. Takedown action w/ right side ejection drilled & tapped on top of receiver, side of receiver & top tang. Grooved walnut has different contours the standard forearm. Matching numbered straight grip walnut stock w/ matching numbered crescent buttplate scratch numbered "145". CONDITION: metal exhibits faint traces of original high polish blue finish on receiver & faint traces of original blue on bbl. in protected areas w/ blending of brown patina throughout w/ scattered pitting spots,scratches on bolt exterior, peeling finish on left side receiver & scattered spots of peppery oxidation throughout. Forearm & stock have worn finish w/ numerous light impressions. Good bore w/ strong rifling showing light pitting throughout. (22-4016/MD). CURIO. $500-1200
