BLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 8.15x46R. S# 533. Bbl 26". Single shot rifle manufactured by Georg G. Allmendinger of Goppingen, Germany. The full length octagonal barrel is engraved "G.G. ALLMENDINGER" on the right flat, with "GOPPINGEN", as well as an eagle followed by a Crown/N commercial nitro proof and "Nitro" on the left flats. Right side of frame and underside of barrel exhibit Crown over "B", "U", and "G" commercial proofs. Frame and lever exhibit a case color hardened finish, with the barrel being blued. Checkered wood buttstock with cheek rest and checkered wood schnabel tip forend. Aluminum beaded blade front sight with dovetailed V-notch rear sight. Double set triggers with tang mounted safety. Front of frame and underside of barrel are stamped "533", forend wedge is stamped "33", with the interior of the forend exhibiting a handwritten "33" in pencil. CONDITION: frame retains strong and vibrant case coloring, with some mild fading and areas of oxidation on the left hand side. Barrel retains the majority of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting some spots of mild wear, as well as some areas of light oxidation. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and a few minor impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise good overall. A very attractive German pre-war single shot rifle, produced by a little known gunsmith. (23-2735/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
