PRE WWII CHINESE OFFICER’S SWORD.
Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 29 3/8". Plain blade with a single narrow fuller. Brass hilt with a turned down quillon. Guard has simple floral piercings with a plain knuckle bow. The backstrap is embellished with cherry blossoms and a foliate motif. There is a nut at the top of the pommel. The grip appears to be wire wrapped faux tortoise shell. The guard has orange colored sash/knot attached. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish with scattered light staining. Hilt is quite loose. Grip is complete but worn. Scabbard has an overall gray patina and is undamaged. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18416/BF). $200-300.
