Overall length: 42 3/4". Blade length: 31 3/4". Blade is etched over half its length w/ gold highlighted etching that includes patriotic & foliate motifs. There is also a 3 1/2" panel etched, “Semper Paratus” which translates to “Always Prepared”. Over the years this has been a favorite motto for many military, militia & cadet organizations. Pierced guard includes acanthus & oak leaves, acorns & “US”. The solid gilded brass grip includes a fully formed 3 1/4" Native American standing at the inside of the grip surrounded by acanthus leaves. Gilded, brass mounted, plated scabbard has an ornate throat, mounts & drag. The mounts are decorated w/ military motifs. The drag has crossed American flags w/ a federal shield. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina w/ scattered areas of oxidation. Approx. 80% of the gold highlights remain on the etched areas of the blade. The blade would greatly benefit from a professional cleaning. The hilt has significant areas of original gilding intact. The knuckle bow is a bit misshaped. Scabbard body remains quite solid w/ a reflective, mottled gray finish. Mounts have traces of original gilding. Drag has a few shallow dents on the back side.
