this lot features two decorative trench art pieces fashioned from fired brass artillery shell casings, each originally produced for the widely used 75mm field gun. During and after the first world war, soldiers and civilians frequently transformed spent shell casings into decorative household objects such as vases, cups, and lamps. These items, commonly referred to as trench art, represent a tangible and often highly artistic expression of wartime craftsmanship and remembrance. both casings have been carefully worked and shaped into ornamental forms. One example has been hammered and sculpted into a flared vase with a waisted body and decorative floral repoussã© work around the upper section. The second casing retains more of its cylindrical form and is decorated with detailed relief designs including a peacock and rose motif set against a textured background. Shell with the peacock and rose has a notable dent to the right of the bird. The peacock's feathers and the floral details display the type of hand-worked artistry often associated with trench art pieces made during the early 20th century. the bases of the shells retain visible stamped markings and numbers consistent with original artillery shell production, confirming their origin as military munitions components before being repurposed. Both pieces show expected age, patina, and handling wear that is typical for brass trench art of this period. Together they form an attractive pair of world war i era decorative artifacts that combine military history with traditional metalworking craftsmanship, making them excellent display pieces for collectors of trench art, militaria, or early 20th century decorative objects.
