Matched Pair of Antique Belgian Large Bore Single-Shot Percussion Pistols, NVSN, approx. .64 cal., blued 8'' octagonal barrels are slightly swamped at muzzles, have small dovetailed blade front sights, notched rear sights with long sighting grooves, and ''ELG'' Li‚ge proofmarks at left breeches; blued lockplates are floral engraved with ''spider web'' engraved panels at their tails; iron furniture is engraved en suite, including upper barrel tangs (numbered ''1'' and ''2'' respectively), hammers, leaf-shaped sideplates, single ramrod ferrules, loop triggerguards with long fancy front tangs, and domed oval buttcaps; halfstocks of lovely varnished European rootwood are checkered at wrists, have vacant oval German silver escutcheons atop their wrists, raised aprons on either side of locks, and leaf-carved oval mouldings at their butts. Engraved screw heads; original button-tipped iron ramrods and single barrel keys. Mfg'd mid-19th century. Condition is very good. Barrels retain approx. 60% early-style light, bright blue with scattered discoloration/erosion that should be carefully cleaned; lockplates retain 40% smooth matching blue, the balance of the metal shows a gunmetal gray-brown patina. Stocks are sound and smooth with sharp checkering and perhaps 70% original varnish finish. Actions are smooth; bores are shiny with sharp multi-groove rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800/pair. (Antique)
