Pancho Villa Mausers 1910 Cal:7x57 SN:6702 & 11216
Two rifles reputed to be used by the bodyguards of Pancho Villa. Both are Mexican model 1910 rifles made at the Mexican National Arms Factory in 1912 and 1914 respectively. This lot includes a U.S. Army Property Confiscated tag which lists a 7mm Ser# 6702 and a letter from an El Paso storage facility which lists both serial numbers as having been sold as abandoned goods in 1948. Rifle 6702 has a 20' barrel with bluing gone to brown with scratches, dings and rust stains. Bore is dark and pitted. Stock has a crude Mexican flag painted on the butt with tacks spelling out "Villa" over it. The forend tip is painted with gold paint. The stock has dings, rubs, scrapes and scratches. Action works well. Condition is poor. Rifle 11216 has a 20" cut-down barrel with finish gone to bare metal with rust stains or brown patina. Floor plate is marked "Guardia Personal de Francisco Villa".The bore is frosty with good rifling. The stock has the Mexican flag painted on it with an oval tag bearing the letter "G" on it and a coin from the state of Chihuahua. Stamped into the stock is"Guardia Personal de Francisco Villa - Capitan R. Lopez - Chihuahua". The other side of the stock has an oval tag with the number "9" on it. There is an added on saddle ring and staple in brass. There is a green blaze on the left side of the stock. The rear of the handguard is painted green with a white line and the front end of it mirrors that. The forend of the stock is painted in the colors of Mexico. All the wood has some battering and there is a crack at the rear of the upper tang and two cracks (maybe repaired) on the rear of the hand guard. Action works well. Condition is poor to fair. *Modern Firearms*
