Plant's Third Model (Type 1) Front-Loading Cup-Primed Large Frame ''Army'' Civil War Cartridge/Percussion Revolver, #2771, .42 cal., 6-shot, 5.5'' octagonal barrel with full-length top rib marked ''Plant's Mfg. Co. New Haven Ct.'' Bronze spur trigger frame with integral sliding cartridge ejector rod on right side. Plant's unique design featured two cylinders, one for cap-and-ball percussion and another for metallic cartridges, the latter intended to circumvent Rollin White's bored-through cylinder patent then controlled by Smith & Wesson. Originally blued steel and lacquered bronze finish; varnished walnut two-piece grips. Condition is about good showing no original blue and most of what appears to be gilded lacquer to rear of frame and grip straps. Spring retained cylinder pin replaced with a plain rod. Grips show most of a later varnish; left panel may be a replacement. Action is non-functioning, bore appears dark. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
