Pre-Civil War Maynard Breechloading Percussion Carbine, 1st Model, with Sling Clip and Swivel, #4805, .50 cal., 20" round barrel, early open sights, 3.5" octagonal breech; receiver has Maynard patent tape primer at right, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever, marked "Maynard Arms Co./Washington" at right, "Manufactured by/Mass. Arms Co./Chicopee Falls" at left. Buttstock of oil-finished walnut has 2.5" steel patchbox marked "Maynard Patentee/May 27, 1851/June 17, 1856", C-curved buttplate, sling ring at lower tang. Mfg'd ca. 1858-59. Condition is very good, the barrel being smooth blue-brown, the receiver dark patina with excellent edges and markings, else gray gunmetal incl. sling attachment. Stock is sound and smooth showing minimal marks, most finish. Action is crisp, barrel hinge secure, bore shows light oxidation, sharp rifling. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)
