Scarce pre-Civil War Plantation or ''Buena Vista'' Saddle, popular in the 1850s Southwestern U.S. Saddles such as these were pressed into service by their officer riders and used by the South throughout the Civil War. Horn area with brass ''CS'' marked shield, roll-stamped detail to seat and cantle area. Lower fenders were either not used on this variation or removed by previous owner. Condition is very good and shows well. Bottom portion shows use with some separation from interior leather and padded areas. Age is difficult to determine as these saddles were used both before and after the Civil War, but with their heaviest use being during the Civil War by Confederate officers. Brass plaque may be a later addition. Est.: $600-$800. (Stand not included.)
