Presentation Grade U.S. Militia Officer’s sword circa 1850’s to Civil War era with a fancy etched and gilt blade with “Nashville” in the center panel. The sword is 38 ½” in overall length with a 32” straight blade.The sword is richly gold gilded, fancy guard and pommel. The quillions and pommel nut show “Artichoke” type decorations with fluted silver grips. The blade shows stands of flags, eagles and the charge of Christianknights in a Holy land style scene. The blade shows a false Damascus style pattern. The etching runs approximately 18” down the blade with 50% plus of the gold wash remaining. The overall condition is verygood plus to nearly fine with minor, normal aging. A rare sword from an area that had family members on both sides during the Civil War.
