QUEEN ANNE CANON BARREL BOXLOCK FLINTLOCK PISTOL
BY JOSEPH BUNNY OF BIRMINHAM WITH ELECTRUM MOUNTS. Cal. 58. NSN. Joseph Bunny worked between 1770-1812. This classically styled pistol w/ 5 1/2" removable turned iron bbl., iron boxlock action & frame that features flint reinforced cock & frizzen w/ spring flush w/ bbl. Action engraved w/ open scroll & w/ Birmingham proofs on bottom. "BUNNY" is in riband on left side & "LONDON" is on right. Sliding trigger guard acts as a safety. Flared knob grip is of dense European walnut & terminates in hallmarked low karat electrum (?) grip cap w/ acanthus scroll decoration. Hallmarks are for Birmingham, 1776 & maker's mark "R.B" (Richard Bickley). The appearance of this metal is untarnished & is of a pale yellow hue. Vacant oval on top of grip as well as the scrolling inlaid chinoiserie wire is also light yellow. CONDITION: iron parts cleaned to silver gray w/ some black, light pitting. Wood w/ old, possibly redone finish. Mechanically good. Top jaw & screw are later replacements. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19229/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
