Two demi-bloc bbl. sets; one 26", one 28"are both fitted with narrow matted ventilated game ribs. Tops of bbls. are engraved "J Purdey & Sons." on top left side and "Audley House. South Audley Street, London, England" on right. All bbls. are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Casehardened sidelock Woodward type low profile OU action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective trigger, with deeply curved finger blade. Action and locks are engraved with typical Purdey house style rose and scroll. "J. Purdey & Sons" is in parchment scroll device on each lockplate, and also on bottom of action above forend iron mortise with "London England" below. Small bow trigger guard has matching scroll and serial number relief engraved on tang which extends to hard rubber grip cap. Dark, profusely marbled and lightly figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 7/8" over checkered wood butt. Stock features usual drop points and closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip. Matching one piece ejector forend services both barrel sets and has Anson release. Bore diameters: 26" barrel set: top - .731, restriction: .009 (IC), bottom - .731, restriction: .008 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: top - .030, bottom - .031. 28" Barrel set: top - .732, restriction .043 (full), bottom - .733, restriction .043 (full). Minimum wall thickness: top - .029, bottom - .031. DAH: 2 5/16. DAC: 1 1/2". Cast about 1/2" off. WEIGHT: (28" bbls.) 7 lbs. 8 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: good quality tan leather motor case for gun and two sets of barrels, is embossed "D.H.M." on top, and is lined in green cloth. A gold embossed black leather Purdey label is in lid. Case contains a 2 piece rosewood and brass cleaning rod. CONDITION: extremely fine, as partially refurbished. Bbls. retain over 95% what appears to be original blue. Action and locks retain 90-95% original casehardening color, silvered on beads, thinning a bit on bottom. Trunion pins are silvered. Top lever thumbpiece and safety button are also considerably silvered. Trigger guard is silvered on edges of bow and thinning to gray on tang. What is likely a newly made buttstock (shorter than factory records and no inlet initials) is of a very high quality and is most likely a factory replacement. It retains nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish with some light marks. Forend was most likely refinished at the same time. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny with both barrel sets. No visible imperfections. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Case leather is still light in color with some marks and rubs. Straps and handle are very good, probably new. Interior cloth is fine. A fine versatile gun. A new Purdey OU starts at over 98.000 pounds with over 21,000 for an extra set of barrels. (20-918/MGM74). CURIO. $50,000-70,000.
