RARE AND UNIQUE GEORGIA MADE CONFEDERATE OFFICER

SWORD WITH ORIGINAL SCABBARD. This unique pattern has smooth pommel w/ CSA cast & incised reminiscent of Dewitt made officer swords from Columbus, GA where he used “CS”, which was also cast upside down. Sword is accompanied by its original tooled leather scabbard w/ scalloped brass mounts. The lg. guard is reminiscent of Tilton, GA made swords, though decoration here is unique. Often Tilton swords have a brass screw attaching knuckle bow to pommel, this sword has lg. brass pin. 30 1/2" blade also has Tilton, GA style top edge thin edge above fuller. Grip has iron wire wrap which is seen on several Georgia sword makers. The Tilton Sword Factory has been identified as maker on several unique patterns & this could very easily be another. Regardless of maker, this is a fine unique “CSA” marked Confederate officer’s sword, not noted before. CONDITION: very good overall & "as found". Hilt & scabbard mounts retain strong traces of original gold wash in protected areas w/ balance of brass medium mustard patina. Blade retains much of its original polish & luster being overall bright/gray w/ areas of staining & pitting. Point where extended past scabbard is dark w/ pitting. Scabbard body is missing drag & last few inches of leather. Middle mount is loose due to missing pin & ring stud. PROVENANCE: ex-Kevin Hoffman collection. (02-15862/JS). $7,000-9,000.
