RARE ATLANTA MADE CAVALRY SABER.

40” Overall, 35” almost straight heavy unstopped fuller blade. This is a much heavier sword than normally seen attributed to Hammond Marshall of the Atlanta Saber Manufactory but retains the same hilt style, brass ferrule & short pommel cap. Instead of the commonly encountered wood scabbard, this scabbard is lap seamed sheet iron w/ cast brass ring mounts, throat & drag. Ring mounts & drag are beveled like those seen on Nashville Plow Works marked sabers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1978 letter from Cecil Anderson stating his opinion that this saber is a product of the Atlanta Saber Manufactory. 2000 Dated bill of sale. CONDITION: very good overall, sword appears original & complete though throat possibly is restored. Guard has branches & quillon bent up. Carved wood grip has hand worn patina & lg. longitudinal crack. Twisted wire wrap is loose & probably restored. Blade has dark iron patina w/ pitting. Scabbard is sound, well fit, w/ iron patina & pitting. Scabbard mounts have dark olive/chocolate patina. Hilt has chocolate brown patina in protected areas w/ balance medium mustard. (02-15798/JS). $3,000-4,000.
