RARE BELGIAN TERSSEN CONVERSION OF 1777 MUSKET TO
MODEL 68 INFANTRY RIFLE. Cal. 11.4 x 50R. S# 985. Bbl. 34 1/2". All visible numbers match. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1400m. Stud type front sight. Rifle designed by General Terssen at Leige State Arms Factory in 1868 & was adopted by Belgium to supplement production of the Albini-Braendlin Rifles. The Terssen rifle utilizes a hinged trapdoor type action. Bbl. is marked on top left flat w/ 1868 date. Bbl. flats have numerous proof & acceptance marks. 3 Band design w/ bayonet bar on right side of bbl. Ramrod is present. Bottom swivels. Walnut stock w/ dished cheek rest marked on right side of butt w/ circular "F. G. L. ? 1868" & "crown" over "L". Front action lock w/ conversion flint lock plate. CONDITION: wood & metal have had light cleaning & light coat of lacquer as a preservative, but markings are generally legible. Metal has light staining & light wear. Bore has strong rifling turning dark in grooves. (01-19339/RW). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
