RARE CHINESE TAKU NAVAL ARSENAL TYPE II COPY OF

MAUSER FLAT SIDE COMMERCIAL MODEL C96 SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 7.63mm Mauser (30 Mauser). S# 532. Bbl. 5 1/2" w/ inverted V post sight; frame mounted tangent rear numbered “1-10”. Mfg. 1928-1933 as Type II (Type I had milled panel frame) flat side copy of Mauser. All visible numbers matching on lock housing, bolt stop, bolt, lg. ring hammer, trigger, firing pin retainer & floorplate plus backs of 22 groove grips numbered “32”. Floorplate release button numbered “2”. Top of bolt & left front of receiver have Crown “U” proofs w/ Crown portion appearing differently than what Mauser used. Noticeable difference from Mauser construction is firing pin retainer milled into rear of bolt & sm. parts are not Nitre blued (regular blueing). In article by noted firearms author Dr. Leonardo Antaris, he states Taku mfg. approx. 1,000 C96’s w/ milled panels from 1925-1928 & approx. 3,500 flat sides from 1928-1933; another reference states about 6,000 of both types. Dimensionally almost identical to Mausers w/ many similar features such as lanyard ring, milled slots in receiver rails & stock slot. Safety lever w/ minimal movement rather than arced movement of most C96’s. Top front of frame in mag. area has angled milled cut on each side that appears decorative. CONDITION: good overall appearance w/ finish that is less refined than Mauser. Gray patina throughout w/ somewhat dull appearance to bolt. Numerous marks on grips w/ light dings throughout. Fair to good bore w/ wear & even light pitting throughout. (22-538/NW). CURIO. $1,500-2,200.
