RARE CIVIL WAR GRIMSLEY MILITARY SADDLE.
This classic brass trimmed high cantle saddle was invented by Thornton Grimsley in St. Louis about the time of the Mexican War. They were found to be quite comfortable by many notable officers who used them. There is an identified Grimsley saddle captured that belonged to Robert E. Lee. Saddle w/ all brass furniture measures 16” from pommel to cantle, padded quilted seat, still retains fenders, stirrups, & cinch. Saddle is “as found” & could use a good cleaning. CONDITION: fair, saddle is overall complete; leather dry, cracks, surface cracking & soiled. Brass furniture has dark uncleaned patina. (02-14177/JS). $1,000-2,000.
