RARE CONFEDERATE CARTRIDGE BOX WITH TARRED LINEN
SLING. Classic Confederate infantryman’s cartridge box w/ soldier’s initials carved on front flap. It is attached to original Confederate tarred cotton linen sling. Box has unique half rnd. flattened roller buckles seen on other identified Confederate boxes & commonly excavated in Confederate battle & campsites. Original boxes however rarely are found. Survival of original Confederate cartridge boxes w/ their original tarred linen slings is extremely low & good displayable examples like this are rarely offered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original catalog description from Shannon Pritchard w/ more history. CONDITION: fair to good overall & still much better than average survived boxes. Complete & original w/ addition of new closure tab well-restored & some new stitching closing opening on one side of box. Sewn edge of sling mostly undone, unaffecting aesthetic. (02-14829/JS). $6,000-8,000.
