RARE EARLY 1805 DATED HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1803
FLINTLOCK RIFLE. S# 2180 Cal. 54. Reconverted back to flint from percussion and bore reamed smooth to .58 caliber. This rifle still is good filler for very rarely offered early serial numbered Harpers Ferry rifles with 33" half octagonal to round barrel. Left top breech is stamped "2180", "US" and an eagle head over "P" oval cartouches. Brass furniture including toolbox, 2 steel ramrod pipes unattached rib under barrel. Lock plate is marked with early large American spread wing eagle facing the cock over "US", tail stamped vertically "HARPERS / FERRY / 1805". Total production from 1803-1807 was 4000 rifles and survivors are rare even altered. CONDITION: Good as reconverted, good lock & barrel markings, stock has inset repairs, mechanically functional with smooth clear bore. (01-22940/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
