Former 1st Lieutenant Dan Carroll worked for Remington Arms Company Research & Development Department in the Bridgeport Connecticut Machine Shop. His research work & precision shooting knowledge aided in the testing of arms & ammunition during WWII. The Model 720 was designed to compete w/ Winchester's popular Model 70 & is a refined version of the Enfield 1917. The Model 720 was introduced in 1941 w/ a total production of approx. 2,500 rifles. Commercial production was interrupted & never resumed after the war. Nearly 1,000 were purchased in 1942 by the Navy Department & were eventually awarded as trophies in Navy & Marine Corp. shooting competitions into the 1960's. The 350 Carroll is a proprietary cartridge Dan Carroll developed during his time at Remington. A Feb. 26, 1996 letter from Rem. historian J. D. Heath gives the following insight into this rare rifle "The .350 Carroll is also very interesting in the fact that Dan Carroll was w/ the Company at the time, and he was in R & D. He may have put it together & bought it from the Company, and somehow, it got into your hands. Dan Carroll died several years ago, so someone may have sold his firearms. The mystery continues!". The 720 has an Enfield style action w/ improved bolt release having alloy trigger guard & floorplate. Bbl. band fastened bead front sight & fillers in holes for rear sight along w/ Lyman 48RS receiver sight. The action is drilled for scope attachment w/ filler screws.
