REVOLVER, ATTRIBUTED TO 51ST PENNSYLVANIA. Cal. 36. S# 15668. Bbl. 7 1/2" oct. Made 1862 The US Army bought only few hundred navy cal. Model 1858 Remington percussion revolvers & this is a fine survivor. Standard configuration, inset German silver cone front sight, top flat marked "BEAL'S PATENT SEPT. 14 1858 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILION N.Y.” 2 Piece walnut grips w/ crisp inspector’s cartouche “CGC” (CG Chandler) on left. Sm. sub-inspector initials found on most metal parts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: lg. binder of research & receipt from Neil Gutterman stating pistol purchased from descendants of Daniel Benfer Jr., who carried revolver in war. CONDITION: fine overall, appears all original & matching, retains about 1/2 original factory thinning blue w/ balance dark plum patina. Crisp markings throughout.
