Cal. 50. S# 208. Bbl. 20". This is very pleasing example of 1st Model Morse carbine w/ solid brass breech door, majority of survivors are damaged, missing, or repaired. Brass frame carbine is in standard configuration. 39.5" Overall w/ 20" rnd. bbl., fixed rear sight, iron & brass inset front sight, maple stock, brass tipped ramrod threaded to extract brass cleaning jag in butt. Though 200 of these 1st Models were made in Greenville, SC; they are rarely offered as survivors are scarce. CONDITION: very good overall, all matching, metal appears complete & original w/ exception of ramrod catch which is restoration. Buttstock also appears to be old restoration. Gun retains medium mustard patina. Mechanically crisp with good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: ex-John Schardel collection, Dallas, TX; Leon “Red” Jackson, Dallas, TX. (01-20183/JS).
