RARE & FINE SIMEON NORTH CONTRACT 1811 FLINTLOCK

PISTOL. Cal. 69. NSN. Fine surviving very scarce gun in original flint with crisp markings. Conforms to other documented examples made 1811-1813, 8.5” barrel proofed “US”, “V”, eaglehead over “CT” in sunken cartouche. Lock marked forward of hammer with a drooped wing eagle over "U.STATES”, at tail vertically "S. NORTH / BERLIN / CON.". Full length walnut stock inspected “V/HHP". Originally contracted for 1000 pairs of pistols, less than half thought delivered in this configuration. In 1812 an improvement of barrel band and band spring was introduced and over half produced in that configuration or in 1813 longer configuration with the “Wickham improved band”. Regardless model 1811s in original flint are rare. CONDTITION: good to fine overall, appears original & complete including iron worm tipped ramrod. Metal cleaned, iron is smooth gray patina, brass is light mustard. Mechanically fine, clean smooth bore. (01-21463/JS). $4,000-6,000.
