RARE HALF SCALE CHARLEVILLE MODEL 1777 TYPE

FLINTLOCK BOYS MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 50. NSN. This unusual musket, possibly built by the armory for a general's child, has unmarked 21 1/4" bbl. with octagonal breech section & attaches to stock w/ 3 spring retained brass bands. Pistol sized flintlock w/ rnd. bodied cock, inset brass pan, friction frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial has chamfered plate w/ rounded rear section is engraved w/ Charleville markings. Military style stock appears to be of fruitwood & is brass mounted. Comb is of later dished style. Brass trigger guard w/ bulbous finial has finger grooves. Front of trigger guard & middle band are fitted w/ sling loops. A steel ramrod w/ trumpet shaped head is present along w/ what appears to be original unmarked triangular bayonet w/ 7" blade. CONDITION: very good to fine. Iron parts are dark brown to black patina w/ light cleaning showing silver highlights. Brass cleaned long ago is nicely toned & a bit spotted. Stock retains most of its original oil or varnish finish w/ considerable darkening where protected & also exhibits hand worn highlights. Bore is good, lightly pitted. Bbl. & lock are in original flintlock configuration. Top jaw & screw are old replacements, as is bbl. tang screw. There are a few minor cracks in stock along bbl. channel & a 2" crack on left side panel above rear lockscrew. PROVENANCE: Estate of of Frank Glenn Marsh. (01-21311/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
