RARE HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1803 TYPE II RIFLE.

Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 36" oct. to rnd. w/ fixed sights. This is a rare survivor in flint originally from the iconic collection of Mead Patterson. This rifle follows the lines of American Kentucky rifles w/ oct. to rnd. bbl. Half stock w/ inset brass band at nose. Braised solid iron rib w/ 2 ramrod thimbles, otherwise brass mounted, including Kentucky style rifle patchbox & cheek piece. CONDITION: very good to fine overall among the best survivors, no doubt. Bbl. & lock have smooth gray patina w/ crisp markings. Stock is sound w/ hand worn patina marked “V / PH” (Phillip Hoffman) & “AB” cartouche (Armstead Beckham). Mechanically fine w/ crisp deep rifled bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20538/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
