Civil War and Indian War used Army register, 7.75" x 5", three-quarter leather bound, about 300 pages listing regular Army officers 1852-1858, several annotations throughout text with comments concerning prominent Civil War officers of the Union and Confederate armies. The front is inscribed “M. A. Reno / USA / Bvt Brig Gen. U. S. Vols” and below that “Ft. Meade, Dakota / March 31, 1881” … Inside back cover “Benteen / 7th U.S. Cav. / Presented by Major Reno / after dismissal / poor old Reno was always in trouble. Cause / a bad egg / though, for last offence he / should not have been dismissed. / Sturgis ground him to dust.”. What a spectacular and unique relic personally owned by the 2 most famous survivors of the Battle of Little Bighorn. CONDITION: fair to good overall. Original and unmolested with scuffing, cracking of both hinges, missing portion of binding bottom of verso with ink inscription stating the book got wet in the Red River Texas.
